About The Product
Description
This programme document outlines a four-year collaboration between the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI), the State Department for Blue Economy and Fisheries, and Norwegian partners including IMR, NIVA, the Norwegian Veterinary Institute, and GRID-Arendal. The initiative aims to strengthen sustainable blue food systems in the Shimoni-Vanga seascape on Kenya’s south coast through integrated work on fisheries management, marine spatial planning, aquaculture, blue carbon ecosystems, and blue food safety.
The programme supports Kenya’s blue economy ambitions by building scientific and institutional capacity, improving ecosystem management, enhancing community livelihoods, and developing innovative approaches such as sustainable ocean planning, ocean accounting, blue carbon conservation, and climate-resilient coastal development. The document provides the strategic framework, rationale, outcomes, implementation approach, governance structure, and budget for the programme covering 2025 to 2028.
