Description

The project “Mikoko” FSPI in Higher Education, Research and Professional Training aims to respond to the solicitation of France by the Kenyan government to meet the challenge of managing the Kenyan mangrove ecosystem “strategic” for the adaptation to climate change, protection of biodiversity, and economic development of the coastal region. With and thanks to its scientific cooperation operators in Kenya, CIRAD and IRD, France has unparalleled experience in meeting this demand.

The Mikoko Project was launched on 18th June 2019 at the Kenya Forest Service Headquarters (KFS), Nairobi. This event consolidates the project team and gathers information and strengthens the links between the main African partners, both in the forestry sector and in the academic world involved in the management of mangrove ecosystems. The main partner’s institutions present at this launching where:

  • National Museums of Kenya (NMK) – Director General, Head Ichthyology Section
  • The Conservation Platform

The web based multi-stakeholder participative sustainability platform will focus on a comprehensive and integrated information system for the mangroves of Kenya with specific reference to the Lamu region.
